Drive letter and dos boot

I have reinstalled XP and this has changed my drive letter from C to D. I'm trying to re install a burning prog but need to change the drive letter to boot up in dos what do I do please. This is driving me mad
 
You'll have to start over and install Windows XP correctly:

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

NOTE: If you have an internal Zip Drive installed, physically disconnect the
EIDE and power cable to it before proceeding, otherwise your main
hard drive may not be assigned the customary C: drive letter.
After installing Windows XP, you may then reconnect it.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete all the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. ==> Immediately after installing Windows XP, turn on XP's Firewall.

7. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

8. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

then select the option to "activate by telephone".

May want to be careful here.
And the new drive letter may be E: rather than C: after this process.
Note from this steps:

partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

When you boot from the Windows XP CD, you enumerate the existing drives are
partitions and assign them drive letters, so the initial drive in the
system should be seen as C drive. If you delete the C Partition and
recreate it during setup, it will get assigned the next available drive
letter that is not already assigned. Since the C drive is already
assigned, it will not get C. Since the CD-ROM is assigned D, it will not
get D, so the first drive letter that is available would be E.
If you are going to boot from CD, and delete existing partitions, after you
delete them, you may want to create the new partitions. After creating
them, you may want to reboot from the CD, so they are given C Drive letter,
which is what it sounds like what you want.

Running Winnt32 or autorun from the CD, attempts to preserve the existing
drive letters that are assigned out, so you do have to boot from the cd to
get the correct drive letter.
