I have a problem while trying to use mpeg2 files that I can not figure
out. Whenever I try to use a MPEG 2 file ( I am trying to make DVD's
of home movies) I try to load it in the DVD authoring program or even
play it in Media player or even go to it in explorier it will close
the program or window and go back to the desktop. I have discovered
that anytime I don't have a disk in my zip drive this happens. If I
put a disk in the drive everything works just fine. None of the files
are on the zip drive they are all on either drive E or F hard drives
and this only happens with mpeg 2 files. the following are a list of
my drives.
A: floppy
C: Zip Drive
D: DVD burner
E: extra hard drive
F: This is my main drive that boots the computer

Some how the computer must be using the zip drive but I can't find out
where or how I can disable this so I don't have to leave a disk in all
the time.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Since it's specific to mpeg2 files, this tells me that it's related to
software, which then suggests to me that there is some sort of software
somewhere which says "if file = mpg2 type then do this" and "this" is
something you don't want. So ... have you check for viruses/worms?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I have run a complte scan with Norton which is up to date with
definitions.
Thanks Jim Clark

Hi Jim,

Have you checked the ZipDrive to see if anything is being written to it? Some programs will assume that your system drive is
'C:' and want to write certain files to it. If that is the case, go into your authoring programs, preferences and see if the
program has any files going to the 'C:' drive.

The Zip drive is being accesed for a very short time and thats all. No
pref's in the authoring program eferything points to drive F:. it will
also close the window if you go and try to copy the mepg2 or delete
the mpeg2 file.
