drive error on start-up

In the past few weeks my computer has been showing an error on start that
says there is "no disk in drive" yet it does not show a specific drive
address. I have checked the error log and still could not find the problem.
One of my dvd drives is not working properly yet the properties say
otherwise. I have tried uninstalling the driver and still nothing works. What
might be the problem and how can I fix it?

With the computer turned off and unplugged, open the case and reseat the
ribbon cable and power supply connector going to the non-working drive.
Restart the computer. If that doesn't help, swap out the drive with a
known-working optical (it doesn't have to be a DVD drive for the test).
If the substitute drive works, you know your original drive has failed
and needs to be replaced.

If the substitute drive doesn't work, then there may be a problem on the
motherboard. If you have both optical drives connected to the second
IDE channel and one of the drives works, the motherboard is probably
fine.
