Drive Designatins of internal & external cd drives swapped in explorer window

When I open an explorer window, the internal cd-rom drive is shown as drive e: and the external usb cd/rw is shown as drive d:. This has been accompanied by difficulties in installing software and accessing software.

Go to Start > Run > diskmgmt.msc
right-click on the drive and select 'change letter...'
and assign the letters the way they were before.
