Drawing Toolbar problem

I'm using the drawing toolbar to insert auto shapes (lines, arrows and text
boxes) into a picture box. Each time I select one of the items on the
drawing toolbar, or the Insert Menu bar, a large textbox comes up with large
lettering "Create your drawing here". I have to use Escape to get rid of it
before I can place the autoshape.

How can I prevent this annoying popup?
 
From the Tools --> Options Dialog Box -- not sure which tab... UNCHECK the
Drawing Canvas item.

It's a new feature in XP and is VERY annoying.

You need to got to Tools + Options and the General tab. At the botto
untick the option for: Automatically create Drawing Canvas.

That should do the trick

That sounds like

I would truly appreciate it if someone came up with the
"real" path for this process.

I abolutely HATE the drawing canvas and want it to go away.

I know it's possible because I made it go away (apparently
by accident) on a former work computer...which was stolen
last year.

Don't remember how I did it, though (it's not a toolbar).

Yes and it works too!
