In trying to open some .jpg files in Outlook 2007, I sometimes receive the
message "Drawing Failed". Any ideas as to cause and how to remedy?

You mean in the Attachment Previewer or are you double clicking it to open
it in an external application? In case of the last, troubleshoot that
application.

Actually both. After I click once on the attachment name to preview in the
reading pane if the "drawing failed" message comes up I double click to open
(Windows Picture and Fax Viewer), but I get the same result. I've used the
"Open With" command to try every program I can think of to open them with no
success.

So you're saying that you get the same results when you save the jpg-file to
your hard disk first and then try to open it? In that case it is not an
Outlook issue but an issue with that jpg-file instead. Ask the original
sender if he/she can resend it to you.

A possible Outlook related issue that may have caused it is that your virus
scanner corrupted it while the message was received. If your virus scanner
integrates with Outlook, disable this integration, ask for the picture to be
resend to you and try opening it again.

I've never saved the jpg to file first. I've single clicked in the Reading
Pane to preview. When that failed I've double clicked to open in Windows
Picture and Fax Viewer. When that has failed I've saved the jpg to the hard
drive and tried to open with other programs.

I'd had the "drawing failed" message rarely in the past. But I've noticed
that in the last few weeks it's become more frequent, maybe one out of 20 or
30 jpgs. I've tried (and I think succeeded) to stop my virus program from
checking e-mails. I'll see if that clears up the problem.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I appreciate it.
