Drawing Canvas

When a text box is inserted in a document the Drawing Canvas frame appears.
I know that I can remove the frame by pressing the Esc key, but can the
feature be turned off so that the frame does not appear?

Norman,
Choose "Tools" - "Options" - on the general tab you will find a box to
eliminate the drawing canvas. It's near the bottom of the dialogue.
