Hi there, can someone please tell me, when I download a program and install
it, do I need to keep the download. Because the majority of downloads that I
do, nearly always have a site where I can download anyway.
Thanks in advance
Pat.

No, you don't need to keep the installer unless you want to. If the program
is something you really want and it might be hard to get again, burn it to
cd-r. Otherwise just delete it.

It's entirely your choice. You certainly don't *need* to keep it. It
occasionally happens that a file you've downloaded won't be available in the
future, but it's very rare. Also, if the downloaded file is very large, it
might be convenient to keep it, so if you ever need it again, you won't have
to take the time to redownload it.

I generally keep all the files I've downloaded, not because I need to, but
because there's plenty of room for them on my drive. But if disk space
availability ever became an issue for me, that would be one of the first
things to go.

Personally, I like to keep the download file, as it's the version I want
and may want 3 years in the future.

Not rare at all as a matter of fact. Often, it's very hard to find older
versions that you want to install again from the prospective sites.

True, older versions sometimes become unavailable, but it's rare that
there's a good reason to prefer an older version to a current one. It
sometimes happens, though.
