downloads into app instead of option to save

I have tried to download from my financial institution my
account information. When I set the file to download to
a .qif file it insists on loading the download to MS
Money instead of putting it in a file where I can import
it into Quicken.

I have looked at all of the Options to find where to
change that and cannot find anything that will help.... HELP!

Do you have both MS Money and Quicken installed? I don't know about Money,
but Quicken saves to the Quicken folder. You can then simply copy the file
to another folder, or, during the Quicken save process, choose another
folder or disk to save to. I save mine to a folder I have named Financial
Information, and to a zip disk in a like named folder. This gives me three
backups, just in case something screwy happens. When I download my
transactions from my bank, Quicken prompts me to save to an alternate
location and automatically saves to the default Quicken folder on my C:
drive.

Hey Kevin.. yes I have both installed. I too have always used Quicken-so I installed it even though Money came preinstalled on the pc. The problem is getting the file someplace where I can open it with quicken. Right now, as soon as I download from my bank-Money intercepts it. I never get the "would you like to save this file" message-I just get a message that says Money has recieved it, do I want to open Money.... I have searched for the option/setting in both IE and Money to turn it off-but can't find it.. thoughts?

Found it... control panel/folder options/file types.. remove the action to open on these file types and can now save..

Thanks!

Good for you! I'm glad you found your answer. I would think about
uninstalling Money if you are going to be using Quicken exclusively. You
could run into problems again.
