I have delayed downloading XP because I have been told that I wil lose all
sorts of files.
Any suggestions on preperations for downloading XP?

Yanni,

Who told you that you would loose all sorts of files? I would ask for
specifics.

WINXP SP2 adds a lot of security - which might 'break' some things that you
might have customized. But that should be easily resolved. It also adds a
firewall which might prevent you from reaching some things that you
currently might.

I would go over the links that have been provided to you and then really
question whomever told you this.

Just a FYI, downloading usually is associated with downloading from the
internet around newsgroups and forums. I believe you are asking about
installing Windows XP as an upgrade to your current OS.
