I'm using XP Home and I've set the Automatic Update
option to download the updates automatically and prompt
for install. We've got a very slow internet connection
and it takes hours to download some of the updates. Often
we're not online long enough to get the entire update
downloaded. With all the updates coming recently, I want
to be sure that they get installed as soon as possible,
so if I log in and wait five minutes and don't see the
Automatic update icon in the lower right hand corner of
the screen, I go to the Windows update site and try to
download them immediately. I scan for the updates and
when I click "Review and install", it puts a new "scan
for updates" screen in the right hand side of the page
and prompts me to scan for updates again.
How can I be sure that the Auto update is downloading
when there is no icon to indicate that it's working?
