I just downloaded several MS Windows XP Patches. But
when I saved them to my PC the download was placed in "My
Documents". I don't think it will do any good there.
So, How do I ensure that it gets saved to the correct
file where it will do what it's supposed to do.

I am not a geek so plain English will work best.

Thanks to whoever replies.

Hi Joe,

I am not totally sure what the situation is.

Do you have file(s) in My Documents which look something like this:
\Software\en\com_microsoft.internetexplorer6x\x86WinXP\com_microsoft.Q818529
_IE6_SP1

If so you need to save them to backup than install them by clicking on the
*.exe file. That will install them. If this does not help please post back
to this thread.

From where did you download the XP patches? Hopefully not from emails.
To apply updates, you should go to Start All Programs> windows updates.
If you elect to save the updates to your hard drive, you will get achoice of
where to save the files.
Before running the files you have a question about, can you list the name in
your reply.
You should never run an MS update from a non-MS server source.

If you downloaded patches, you probably did not get them via the Windows
Update facility included in XP?

If you did not get them via Windows Update ... then perhaps you received
them in email from someone and you put them in the "My Documents". If
you did this, you probably have fallen for the scam in which people send
out emails laced with viruses.

Microsoft does not send any emails like this. If you did this, you
should delete these files now.

See Windows Update on the Start | Help and Support menu.
