downloading updates for windows xp

CAN SOME ONE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME WHY WHEN I GO TO
DOWNLOAD CRITICAL UPDATES FOR WINDOWS XP, 2/3 OF THE WAY
THROUGH THE DOWNLOAD I GET KNOCKED OFF LINE, AND WHAT I
CAN DO TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING.

Ouch, turn off the caps lock key.

No one can tell why you're getting knocked offline. Perhaps someone in
your home is trying to use the phone?

I'd suggest downloading the updates manually if it's difficult to do it
online. When you go to the WindowsUpdate page after letting it scan your
computer to see what updates you need you can "review and install updates"
right? When you are reviewing the updates it wants to install, you can
also "read more...". Those links will take you to the pages MS has for
each individual update where you can download the updates individually so
you can install them later instead of all at once.
