downloading songs & movies

As a general advice I have to say this: Use the internet to expand your
knowledge, p2p (peer to peer sharing) networks can be used as a gigantic
library such that earth has never seen before for educational reasons.

Many programs exist but you must be warned that you will be probably
downloading
copyright material, and that is illegal. But since I have no way of knowing
what you will select to download, you can take your own risk with the
following:
Also have in mind that some files MAY contain virus or be corrupt-fake, so
use a virus scan. You have been warned!

Emule http://www.emule-project.net/ (this uses mainly the donkey 2000
network) good for video and audio, some files may be corrupt or have
viruses. Emule however has comments for its files, if you see red
exclamation points next to the file name, right click on it and read the
comments. Someone is warning you about this file.

utorrent http://www.utorrent.com/ this is a torrent application, it has a
search box. When you enter a search read the comments or information on the
page before downloading.
Other users may complain. Not likely to find many corrupt or virus infected
files here, since
no one shares them if they are of this nature.. but still it is possible.

you might want to try shareaza too that searches various networks

HEY
how can I download songs & movies thru net to my PC via broadband

<OT> Not really a "freeware" related question, but depending on what
you're looking for, you could try the appropriate "alt.binaries"
newsgroups. There's also a few peer-to-peer networks still around. If
you're looking to buy songs and movies, a google search should do it.

Let me add to that.
The p2p system are easily monitored by anti-pirat organisations because
of how they are technically built. All your downloads will be
registered by them and may cause problems for you in the future. If you
also let others download material from you you are guilty of
distributing material, which is even more serious.

You could loose your broadband connection and even get a bill you have
to pay to the organisations which the big record and film companies are
running.
Add the risk of viruses and you should realize that using a p2p
program is not a good idea. On top of that comes the problem that much
of the material is incomplete, badly sampled, etc..

There are lots of material you can download for free and legally, but
not via p2p systems.

Use a radio recorder like the freeware Screamer to record streamed
music.
That is perfectly legal just like you can record music from terrestial
radio stations.

With the Screamer program you can choose from hundreds of radio
stations via internet and record anything you like. With a little
patience you will find the popular songs you are interested in.

Other methods:
Find record companies and other places which let you download stuff for
free.

This is a good method for more un-common music which is harder to find
via radio stations.

I liked a latinamerican guitarist very much, Chamin Correa is his
name.
Totally unknown outside latin america but a big star there.
I found his record company and they let me download many songs for
free.

Considering how much free material you can find on the web there is
very little reason to use p2p networks, with the risks you are
subjected to in them.

I agree to some point.... You have to know what you are doing when you use
p2p networks.

Please don't degrade the value of torrent, since lots of opensource Linux
distributions and
other legit information is distributed this way and cannot be controlled
from a central source,
this is crucial, since information can be censored via other channels.
Its a tool that if used wisely, will transform the planet and educate
millions.

I thought about the networks that use kazaa, limewire, etc..

Torrent is often/usually used for serious purposes and I didn't
associate p2p to torrents, but technically torrent is a p2p system too,
I guess, didn't think about that.

Most movies & songs for download that I've seen are hyperlinked. Try
clicking on the link and see if that doesn't start it.

Or, as the inimitable Ron May put it...
same way as on dialup, only faster.....

Oh, yes it is! Generally, if it is big and you want people to download
it, I can't see why any p2p protocol should be less suitable than, say,
http. Double-DVD releases such as Debian (Linux distribution) and Star
Wars: Revelations (fanmade movie) are perfect examples. For more
examples I can recommend a look at http://www.legaltorrents.com. You

Two sides of the same coin.

Nope, whoever he was he was wrong.

"There is but one fundamental truth behind all perception"

If there was no truth then when you would say that "reality changes with
perception", you are a creating a rule that you call truth, that you
yourself said did not exist. Thus your logic collapses upon itself.

- Kenny, yep that's me.

You misread the original quote, which opined that there is NO reality
and so having reality change with perception is impossible.

Personally, I think it's all baloney anyway, but fun to play with.
