When trying to donload a file and save it to my desktop after downloading is
complete the file is not saved. Can someone please be of some help as I have
never had this problem before?

1. Clean out the temp files.
2. Save to a location Other than the Desktop. (Say a temp folder on C:)

Thanks very much for the suggestion, but I constantly clean out temp files
and tried downloading to another location and it still did not work.

The file is originally written as a temp file in temporary internet
files , when complete it then "moved" to the specified location. Is the
TIF cleaned out from Internet Explorer?

yes

Is it from one particular site that doesn't work, or just one file?
Other sites work? Other files from this site work?

no downloads work from any sites

Is the system patched to SP2? Dialup or broadband? Are you using a
download manager? Any spyware/browser helper objects installed?

Delete all files in windows temp/tmp folders. Delete all Internet cache
files. Create a new folder for your download. Try again.
