Use a download manager that has a "resume" function. See
http://google.com for a listing.
Or use a browser with a built-in DL manager. Beware "spyware" with some
of these free utilities.
See "spyware" lists that can also be found via Google.

Hi Bill,

Use a third-party download manager like DLExpert which can pause/resume downloads (if the server supports resuming).

Hi Ramesh,
I've downloaded/installed DLExpert. How do I configure it to only download
when I want it to. It starts on small downloads and while it's running, it
almost blocks me completely from receiving/sending Email or using my IE
browser. Otherwise, works great for large downloads.

Hi Bill,

Use the "Start" / "Stop" buttons to resume or stop downloads.

Hi Ramesh,
I've tried that but it's always to late as it's started the DL & won't let
me just do a normal, without DLExpert, download and still has IE & OE messed
up. As soon as I click the file on the page I want to DL, up pops a "Add
New Job" window. I click "OK" DL starts, I click "Stop" it stops but will
not let me do the normal DL. If I click "CANCEL" when the "Add New Job"
pops up, the DLExpert closes but then if I click that link again, DLExpert
restarts.

Bill,

That's the problem caused by Download managers. They automatically integrate with the browser without prompting the user. Here is how to disable the integration, so that it's not launched when you click a download URL.

Open DLExpert Options.
Click Automation
Uncheck "Monitor clipboard" and "Monitor click in IE"
Close DLExpert. You can manually initiate downloads if you want, using DLExpert.

Hi Ramesh,
That worked. But I have to check those options to make it work when I want,
right?

Not necessary to turn ON the integration options, Bill. But you can manually launch DLExport and type-in the download URL when you want.
