Hello,

I am experiencing serious trouble with internet access
and would very much like your help, I hope that you are
able to solve my problem(s) or send me in the right
direction, I'll give as much explanation as possible.

I can still access html pages on the internet, but other
pages are not possible. It's impossible to download e-
mail attachments (cannot open webpage error), nor watch
online movies (perhaps a different problem but I think it
is the same) nor download all sorts of updates directly
from the web. I checked my settings for internet security
and related, they seem to be as they should (in my humble
opinion).

I have run adaware and Spybot, that did not help. Norton
anti-virus (run from my own laptop or run from
www.symantec.com) did not detect any virusses. I also
tried switching from Internet Explorer to Mozilla, which
did not help either. Mozilla gave a "timed out" error,
and it was even completely impossible to acccess yahoo
mail with it ( IE did allow that, just not the
attachments). Trying to download

The problem started to appear about 2 weeks ago (my Acer
laptop worked fine the year before that, and I did not
change any parameters as far as I know), but I did not
pay real attention to it then. As extra intel I have to
say that the laptop was under repair (broken screen) just
before that, but I doubt it will have any impact.

I hope you can help me or give some ideas in which
direction to look for help,

Thanks in advance,

Matthias

Hi,

It seems that some files in Internet explorer are misisng or corrupt.

Insert the Windows XP Cd in the CD Drive and then go to a dos prompt by clicking Start | Run and then type cmd in the box and pressing enter. this will open a dos prompt window.

in the dos prompt type this command

c:\
c:\sfc \scannow

this will scan the system for the missing files and then restore them to the original state.

Since you are having a problem with both browsers I would look at a possible
Proxy issue check with your ISP if you need to use a proxy or not possibly a
change was made or undone. proxy information is at tools-internet options-
connections from the menu of IE.
More info needed as to how you connect!
