download problem

When I try to download a picture file, using 'save
picture as' download screen appears.

I enter filename and destination, press 'save.'

Screen disappears, but nothing is saved.

(I have had no problem until yesterday. Reinstalling XP
did not help.)

Reinstalling was a bit drastic.

Are you using Internet Explorer to do this? Which version? What
recently changed (before yesterday)?
