I have tried to install Adobe 8.0 over the internet. It downloads the program
but rejects the installation with the message that the drive is not
accessable or that there are no writing rights to the Temp folder. Could any
one help me....

Well, someone is probably going to post calling you a stupid user. Ignore
Him

Normally that message is limited to Adobe reader 8 and it's because you have
the UAC turned off. You can turn it on, install AR8, then turn it back off.
Or do what has worked well for me, and download it and choose to run it in
XP compat mode.

If you have the UAC on and are getting that message, it might be because the
internet installer needs to run as administrator and can't. Either way, I
think downloading to your local drive and then running in XP compat mode
will be the easiest fix. (if you have UAC off)

Mine simply wouldn't install, the mouse pointer would show activity for a
few seconds and go away with no results. I resorted to Adobe 7.0.6. Later
it wanted to update, I let it and had to start over. Don't let it update to
7.0.8

Strange, I'm running Adobe Acrobat 8 Reader on Vista x64 no problems.

I am running 7.0.8 in VISTA

Try to manually extract the install files by copy them from the temp folder.
So:
-download from adobe 8.0 and run it, until it gives the error
-do not close the window!
-go to the temp folder the error is about.
-copy files from temp folder to another folder.
-close the error message (temp folder will be emptyed)
-start the install from your new folder.

good luck
