There are no downgrade options for Windows. You have to start over from
scratch.

There is good reason for this, because there is no simple answer to how
gracefully degrade dozens to thousands of settings which would no longer
apply in the downgraded software.

Yes.

In essence:
---------------
Boot with your Windows XP Home CD.
Delete all partitions.
Create new ones.
Install Windows XP Home Edition.

In other words - in order to go from Windows XP Professional to Windows XP
Home Edition - you must wipe the hard disk drive of Windows XP Professional
and install Windows XP Home Edition.

Use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard from the XP Home CD to
backup your data files and configuration settings etc. Burn the
resulting file and folder to a CD or DVD.

Then reformat your hard drive and install XP Home. Reinstall your
application programs and then run FASTW again to import the saved
data.

Note: You must use the FASTW program on the XP Home installation CD
to create the backup. If you do it using the copy of FASTW installed
with your XP Pro then there is a risk that the XP Home will not be
able to process the data.

Good luck

Exactly my thoughts. The relatively few things I can quickly put
my finger on for Pro are very well worth the rather high premium
over Home. The easiest to comprehend is real sharing, not
"simple".

The only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home is to
format the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade path
or technique.

Simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll be
offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
