Hello

I have MS Office Small Bus 2003. I need to downgrade Outlook 2003 so it is compatible with my work Exchange Server which is 2000. Can anyone tell me where and how I do this please

Much appreciated
Jan

Outlook 2003 is compatible with all versions of Exchange. What is the issue?

Anyway; uninstall Outlook 2003 and install Outlook 2000. Then recreate your
mail profile; Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles...

Thanks. I connect with the VPN but I cannot get Outlook to synch in Offline mode or even get into Online mode. It comes up with an error that it can't reach Exchange Server but VPN connects fine. When I looked at the Help menu within Outlook 2003, it seemed to say that Outlook 2003 will only work with Exchange 2003 and not other versions

The message says: "Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x8004011D) : 'The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists.

When you say to uninstall Outlook 2003 and install the 2000, how do I do this without 2000 CD? I only have the Office 2003 CD I bought.

Found this article with no solution provided (I'll get back to you on that);

Can you connect succesfully when you disable Cached Exchange mode?

You can't install Outlook 2000 if you don't have; makes sense right? ;-)
Contact Microsoft to check whether your software license allows you to
instal Outlook 2000 and order a CD-kit.

Thanks. Disabled cache but it wouldn't let me into online mode. With it abled, I can get into Online but it reverts straight to offline because it cannot find server.

My dialup is slow but will eventually get to read article - thanks.

Will call MS tomorrow (night here). I thought there may be a free downgrade somewhere on their site but I suppose I wasn't thinking properly!!!

We too have severe problems with OL11 when connecting through a VPN.
Users can ping the server, they can telnet to port 25, but OL11 often
refuses to play ball (and they don't use "cached" mode). It's a major
bummer.

Port 25 has got nothing to do with it as you are not using SMTP.
The VPN thing is a known issue. I'll post here when I find out more.

Well I finally heard back from MS and big fat NO help were
they. They gave me the option of (a) connecting with one
of their technical specialists which would be upfront fee
of over $200, b) speaking with my IT person (even though
there's nothing they can do or c) repurchasing office and
wasting another $500!!

I'm so mad! And I've wasted so much time!

Jane

Hi Jane,

I tested it today I it worked for me. However I know that there are several
issues with Outlook 2003 and VPN and it appears to be a problem with on
which subnet you are. If you are on the same subnet as the Exchange server
all seems to work well.

If you don't know about the subnets it's best you ask your administrator
about it.

Anyway; uninstall Outlook 2003 and install Outlook 2000.
[snip]

Probably the best advice (although surprising from an Outlook "MVP").
OL11 is seriously flawed when used over slow connections, something
which OL9 managed quite efficiently.

What is surprising? She asked how to return to Outlook 2000 which I did
answer.

Read my latest reply on the VPN issue as well?

I've also have the same problem and have read several posting from many people who apparently never experience this problem. I like to list out the complete issue here

1. Outlook 2003 was connected fine to Exchange 2000 for months then suddenly, due to a loss of connection while Outlook 2003 is running, it decided that it can no longer connect to Exchange 2000.
2. What I discover is that it is not a workstation issue since loggin on as another user in this workstation works
3. It is not a profile issue too since I've deleted and recreate profile several times
4. I've also tried loggin in to another computer that have no problem connecting and sure enough, I got the same error
5. It does not matter whether I am on VPN or local network
6. Don't tell me it is DNS since I can ping by the server name and also since it was working before. I also was able to setup a profile where the connection is via IMAP to that same exchange server and it worked
7. Waited 3.5 hours on the phone today for Microsoft Tech even willing to pay $250 for the call. But I was still on hold after 3.5 hours so hang up. I will try again tomorrow. Hopefully, be able to get a real answer
