My previous operating system was Windows98 second edition.
I had an HP712C printer installed on this computer which
provided doublesided printing as one of its features.
This was labled "book" or "tablet" and worked flawlessly.
I have since purchased a DELL computer with Windows XP
(home edition) installed.
For some reason Windows XP does not recognise the HP712C
printer. It prints, but does not offer the doublesided
printing feature. It states in the printers properties
"doublesided-no "
Is their some way I can change the configuration settings
to correct this problem. I know the printer can do it !
Why cant Windows XP?

Have you tried to download updated drivers from HP?

I have Deskjet 840C and using native XP drivers had no double sided
printing. Updated drivers from HP site fixed it.

You will probably not find any available drivers from H-P for your
printer and the ones included with XP are only generic in nature and
will not provide access to the capabilities of your printer . I have the
722C and had the same problem.. You either have to purchase a newer H-P
printer with duplex capabilities or check into a program named FinePrint
which will give you duplex capabilities as well as other features. It
costs around $40 bucks but that is cheaper than a new printer
(especially if your current printer still works well). They are located
here.....
