I run AdAware, and one data miner that's always found is DoubleClick. I
wondered if there's a way to stop from ever getting it on my machine. In
my search, I ran into Network Advertising Initiative (NAI):

http://www.networkadvertising.org/default.asp

where I can opt out of DoubleClick. Actually, all I can do is set the
double click cookie to "Opt-out". If I were to delete the cookie with
AdAware, I'd have to visit the NAI site to renew the opt-out setting.

On the NAI site there's a list of members that subscribe to this opt-out
option. The list contains only two members! DoubleClick and Atlas DMT,
whose cookie I frequently see, too.

I say big deal. Two advertisers, and I have to renew opt-out cookies.

Am I missing something about NAI's signifigance? What's the big deal?

Other than tweaking the cookie settings in IE, is there a way to keep
DoubleClick of my machine?

TIA

In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Then click the privacy tab, then at the bottom click Edit.
Type double-click.net, press return and it should be in the list.
Type double-click.com, press return and it should be in the list.

That should stop it coming back.

Type double-click.net, press return and it should be in the list.
Type double-click.com, press return and it should be in the list.

You should also type doubleclick.net and doubleclick.com
