A co-worker was working in a regularly-used workbook. Suddenly a second, seemingly identical workbook opened; the two were named *.xls:1 and *.xls:2 respectively. A week ago, a similar situation happened with the same workbook, except the duplication occured upon opening, rather than after it was already open. At that time, when we closed one of the "versions" the colon-number additional extention disappeared. But after closing the remaining document and reopening, the duplication appeared again upon opening. Can anyone tell us what this means? Did she accidentally hit a command to open a duplicate workbook, if such a command exists? or what?

These are created by selecting Window>New Window

It allows you to look at 2 different parts of the same workbook. To revert
back to only 1 window open, close one of the windows (File>Close) and then
save the file.

You must close using the *second* X down in the upper right of the window,
otherwise, you will close the WB itself and accomplish nothing,
OR,
You can easily close the "current" (on screen) window using either:
<Ctrl> <F4>
OR
<Ctrl> <W>

If you have more then 2 windows, just keep closing until there's only one
and then make sure you do a SAVE.
