My laptop running xp crashed.I re-installed xp from the recovery disc but
found some of my documents were missing so re- installed from a backup which
i do regularly using Dantz backup. All is working fine but i find that i have
lost(or used up) an extra 4.2GB of hard drive space. Is it possible that xp
has been installed twice?Thank you.

Yes, that could be the case. But XP doesn't itself take up 4GB of space.

Use Windows Explorer to see if there are two Windows folders. They can't be
in the same part of the folder hierachy together because you can only have
one folder with the same name. You can also check to see if there are any
other duplications.

Also check in any other partitions.
