Double clicking on exe files not working

After getting a worm or virus, double-clicking on exe files is not working,
nor does it work on the program icons on my desktop.....
i need some serious help please....

I should add when I double click, I get a pop-up message window saying that
"windows can not find C:\Programfiles\Nero.exe" for instance...
please...anyone can help?

I take it you took steps to rid your PC of the "worm". Did you disable
system restore before you did so? If not, the "worm" may still be in the
system. Disable system restore and repeat the process. Go to Start>Run and
type, "sfc /scannow" (no quotes) note the space between the "c" and "/".
Have your XP CD ready. This should restore all of your XP files. Make sure
restore is re-activated and then run XP updates. You may need to restore
your personal settings.
