Double-click Document Starts Word but Doesn't Load Doc

This is a weird one - or maybe not. I double-click on a document, assuming that it will start MS Word 2003 and load the document. This isn't what happens. While MS Word 2003 starts, it doesn't load the document. This behavior has me stumped.

I tried changing document types and loading Wordpad (through associating *.DOC with that program). That worked like a charm. Double-clicking the document started Wordpad and loaded the document. When I reassociated the document with MS Word 2003, the same problematic behavior returned. Word would load - very quickly - but the document would not. I can then drag the document into Word, and the document will load quickly, or I can quickly load a Document through Word's File/Open menu option.

Any help in resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

As a side note, Omnipage 14 and Trend Antivirus are installed on this computer.

Thanks,

I can help narrow it down a little. I have Win XP, Off 2003 and Trend
Micro's Antivirus and I don't display that problem. No, I didn't do
anything 'strange' during installation either :-(

Thanks Steve. It sure has me stumped. I may just reinstall to see if that
helps. I also have SP2 (MS beta) installed. I can't uninstall that. I wonder
if that's part of the problem.

Regards to you.

G'day "Monte Olsen" <[email protected]>,

I have the latest SPs for everything loaded. However, I did keep Word
200 as part of the install and regularly swap back and forth. If you
have an office 2k disk around, you could (yes, it is horrible but it
may work as there is an explicit filetype linking mechnism that kicks
in)

Uninstall Off 2003. Install just Word 2k. Install Office 2003 and
elect to keep Word 2k. Fire up Word 2k and close it. Fire up Word 2003
and close it. Test your file link. If it works you can think about
uninstalling 2k.
