dotted box on my word 2003 not allowing me to start a document

I am realy sorry but i am a novice at using word documents, i have a dotted
box taking up half page not allowing my cursor to start at top of my page can
anyone please help.
 
That sounds like the header text box.

Go to View - Header and Footer. Make sure it's not selected.
 
All sorted thank you very much for your assistance fixed the problem in
seconds now able to work with no problems xxx
