dotnetframework install/uninstall just stops mid way

hi there.
I tried to install VWDE to learn .net and it says in the documentation
that i need to uninstall all instances of the .net framework as i
assume VWDE installs updated versions with additional functionality?

anyhow, i tried to uninstall and the removal stops half way, ive left
the pc on for days and it doesnt move.

and when i go to windowsupdate it says i need to install the dot net
framework again, only on the installation this does the same (yet more
wasted days)

anyone know how to remedy this?

Google for the netframework cleanup tool (I think it's Microsuck). Does
the trick.
