dotnet framework installation broken.

Windows update says the 1.1 framewke is needed, it downloads the files
and then freezes and does nothong, even if left for days!

anyone know how to remove the partial installation so i can reinstall
it?

Un-install, then run Microsfot net framework cleanup tool.
