I wonder why new versions of Messenger (both Windows and Msn) are not built
on dot net technology. Does anyone knows?
Is there any plan to so so and when?

Thanks in advance

Victor

Greetings Victor,

Well there's no magical way of converting five years worth of unmanaged C++ code to managed
code. Ignoring the fact that a complete rewrite would be required, a lot of the things used
in Messenger (like DirectUI, RTC, etc.) do not have managed equivalents so it would be rather
pointless to be using managed code.

Never mind that it would make the 10MB download to nearly 30MB (for people without the
framework). Performance also would be questionable.

Thanks,

While your reasons sound reasonable, do you expect that somewhere in the
future this will happen?
I ask because I want to start developing a communication project that uses
the technology and would like to know what is preferable for me now to start
with.

Thanks again

Victor
