I have a dos program that I am trying to load to xp. The
program requires a security devise that is plugged into
lpt1. The printer port works, but I am getting an error
with the devise working. (works fine on my 98 system) Is
there a setting that is not allowing the lpt1 to read
back to the system?

It's called a dongle. Chances are you're out of luck unless there is a
fix from the software maker. Check with them.

Bad I doubt seriously you'll ever get this software to work
under XP. Most security dongles and the software that uses them want
direct access to hardware - which XP will slam the lid on.

I'd start hunting for a newer version of the software - or another
package that does the same job that will run under XP.
