win xp home alienware notebook. when I boot up I see a quick dos screen
flash on the screen. also happens when I click web pages.
Is this something to do with a command called "echo off"?

Greg

Echo is an old DOS batch file command which allows you to send text to the DOS
screen. ECHO OFF turns off the displaying of text. You need to know "why"
your notebook has this active. Check in the start-up sequence to see which
file is causing this.

I am using McAfee security products on my PC and when I reboot I get the
Command Prompt screen flash as you describe. It flashes briefly as McAfee
scans prior to Windows booting. I am not sure about web pages- never
noticed it in that case.

I thank you all for the reply. Im not sure what is meant by "startup
sequence" is this msconfig startup or in the boot.ini file?
