dos commands not recognized

we have one (only one!) xp user who is rec'g the
following error message when trying to run a dos command
(i.e. ipconfig, etc):

"ipconfig" is not a recognized command, operable or batch
file

he has admin right to the local pc

Check at Control Panel - System - Advanced - Environmental variables,
that the setting for Path is not damaged - should start with
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\system32\WBEM;
