In older versions of Windows, you could capture LPT2 or whatever to a
network port that was listed the printer port config window. Since this was
a very straightforward and lightening quick thing to set up, I guess should
be no surprise that it was be eliminated in WinXP.
I have a printer on a Jetdirect 170x server that installed OK on the WinXP
workstation, and I can print to it. I have not, though, been able to find a
syntax that works for redirecting LPT2 to this printer, e.g. NET USE LPT2:
\\SERVERNAME\SHAREDPRINTER ...I saw old postings on this subject that said
the host name had to be used for SERVERNAME instead of the IP number. I
don't see anything in the Jetdirect config software that sets a host name
string. The workstation created a port name string derived from the print
driver "ML320TURBO" and this doesn't work either in that spot. I also don't
know if there has to be a string in the SHAREDPRINTER position, and I can't
see anywhere to config that either on the Jetdirect unit. When I print a
config sheet directly from the Jetdirect, it has a hostname = "not
specified" in the list of network parameters.
Any ideas?
thanks
