Help, I have a dos based program I use daily. Ithink this is causingmy
computer no to log off or shutdown. I vaguely remember having to tick a box
to close on exit back in Win98 years ago to resolve a similar issue. Please
help

Yeah - not really enough information.
What's going on with your processes as you attempt to shutdown?
Anything in the Event Log?
Ever tried booting up - logging in, using the computer for everything but
the DOS based application and then shutting down to see if it *is* that app
causing your issue?

Ok, I close all programs, Look in the Task manager and there is nothing open.
Even if I turn the computer on and try to turn it back off, It stlll shows
the logging off screen until I Power off the computer. I am on a network,
does this effect anything too?

Thanks for trying your best anyway....

Are you saying you have done everything - gone through everything
(particularly on the second link) and found nothing?

Those links are not handed out at random or to just give you busy-work to
do.
They are there to help you.
They list some common issues with conflicts/shutdown and how to resolve
them.

We cannot see your screen, we cannot see your computer - you have to help us
help you.

Thanks Shenan,
I have been through all suggestions on the website links,
check all software & hardware listed on them against what is on my laptop.
I really do appreciate your help, so what exactly do I need to
tell you to go further?

Explain your computer hardware - in detail...
Especially the peripherals - especially any USB/firewire devices connecting
to the computer.

Start button --> RUN --> MSCONFIG --. OK --> STARTUP tab... What is listed
there?

Have you checked that you have the latest (from each hardware manufacturer -
never get your drivers from the Windows update site UNLESS your hardware
happens to be a microsoft piece of hardware...) software driver for things
like:

- motherboard chipset
- network card
- video card
- sound card
??

What about your installed applications... If you go through Control
Panel --> Ad or Remove Programs... Do you recognize the installed
applications? Any you do not need and can remove?
