Hi. I am the only one that uses my computer with XP home edition. I do not
want the welcome screen to show on boot up and I do not want the "log on to
windows" prompt to show at boot up. Following the directions I've seen on
this forum, I have turned off the welcome screen. When welcome screen is off
the log on prompt comes on when the log on prompt is turned off the welcome
screen automatically turns on. I want them BOTH OFF! Since windows takes so
friggin long to boot up it would be nice to hit the on button, walk away and
come back to a booted machine -- not a stupid welcome screen or log on box!

thanks,
Kerri

Kerri,

Click Start, Run and type "control userpasswords2", and click Ok.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" option, and click Ok.

Hi Kerri

Try this:

From Start>Run type in

control userpasswords2

then uncheck 'Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer' and click 'Apply'. On the next screen - 'Automatically Log On' -
delete the name 'Administrator' from the User name box and enter your
account name and then the password in the next two boxes. OK your way out
and then reboot your system.
