Don't want automatic Extensions on saved files in file name

My original settings were set such that when I saved a file the first line of the document was the title and there would be no extension (.doc) in the title of the file. What can I do to restore the setting so that the extension is not automatically in the title/name of the file?

Open Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options > View. Check the box
for 'Hide file extensions for known file types'.

As you may infer, there is always an extension (that's how Windows knows
what sort of file it is) -- the difference is only whether or not it's
displayed to you.

And the general consensus is that *not* seeing file extensions can be
hazardous to your computer's health (makes it a lot harder to detect viral
attachments).

Not to mention the obvious problem of file names that are identical apart
from the extension. One of my clients had every document in both .doc and
..rtf forms, in the same folders -- went crazy trying to figure out why he
kept losing and recovering his edits.

Go to my computer, In the menu bar click on Tools / Select Folder Options / Under the View Type make sure the Hide Extensions for Known File Types is checked
