Hi,

In Excel Pivot tables is there any way to format variables
in the Pivot data area, in a manner that they do not
continually require re-formatting if you alter Pivot
layout? For example, if I alter the pivot data area I
continually have to re-format numbers (Currency, $USD, no
decimal places etc)when I revert .....

Three items:

(1) After creating the PT, check Table Options... In that dialog box
there is an option to 'Preserve Formatting'

(2) There is a MSKB article that discusses what formatting is and is not
preserved

(3) Turn on the macro recorder, format the PT as desired, and turn off
the recorder. Now, after refreshing the PT, run the macro and the
formatting will be set the way you want.
