I want to know what I have to do with DNS by having domain name in the
format of %domainname.local%. Are there advantages or disadvantages?

The question is about why with suffix or why with .local suffix.

Why with suffix at all - becouse there is a lot of problems with the
domain names without the suffix or just "." at the end.

And if You are asking about this .local suffix - this, or any other non
public suffix is that You don't have to maintein "split brain" DNS
configuration where You have identical domain name in the LAN and in the
Internet. Or If You choose to use other (not owned by Your company)
domain with public suffix in You AD design using not public suffixes
let's You avoid problems with resolving names to this public domain.

There is no specific disadvantages an non-public domain suffix
configurations. An advantage is that You need less administrative work
to meintain DNS infrastructure for Your company.

But if Your business needs are for example that You users have to log on
to the domain with UPN's identical as Your e-mial address using Your
public domain as AD domain DNS name will be needed.
