I know this is a common problem, but I have not managed
to get anything to work effectively

a) how can you set up the home network to be able to get
access to a laptop that is set up with a domain? (HOme
is XP HOme; Laptop is XP Professional)

THe most useful help to date has been that I should be
able to set up a different profile on the laptop, through
and should be able to then use this to connect - but I
can't find out how!

b) Why does Microsoft not fix this to make it easy and
simple? There must be hundreds of thousands of people
with the same problem!

Even if your workgroup is part off a domain, you can still get peer to peer
connectivity. Just use the UNC path of \\computername\sharename to make
your connections.

The best solution that I have found is a thirdparty product
from www.globesoft.com, MultiNetwork Manager 7
It's a real time saver for any laptop user who moves
between networks
