domain name change best strategy?

Our company is going to be changing its name in the near future and ive been
instructed to bring the domain up to spec with the new name. Im aware that
it cant simply be renamed but im looking for best strategies. Right now im
looking at 2 options... Put up a new server and use the active directory
migration tool to migrate users and mailboxes that way. Or build a domain
recreate all users and mailboxes manually.... Use exmerge to bring all the
mailbox data to the new server and associate all accounts. Anyone been
through this and have any insights to offer?
 
I think your best strategy is to put up new DCs in the new
Domain and use the migration tool to migrate users and
mailboxes, like you said. Then you could dcpromo the
servers and move them to the new domain. AFAIK there is no
way to rename a domain in W2K, however... you can if it's
W2K3. Probably not an option for you, but if you upgraded
all DCs to W2003 Server there IS a domain rename utility
for 2003. However, you'd still have to migrate the
exchange, because the W2003 rename tool does not support
e3xchange, anywhere in the forest. For more info:
