Doing file check every boot

This Acer desktop wants to do a file check every time it is booted, even
though it is always shut down correctly.

How do I stop this happening?

Have you let it do a file check? If you do, it will probably stop
prompting you to do one.
 
I can't avoid doing the filecheck. It won't accept any key at all to stop it.

Surely someone out there knows what causes the file check, and how to turn
it off, or delete the problem.

You never said that you actually did the fsck. What you are saying, as I
understand it, that your Acer will always do an fsck, regardless of whether
you have done one previously.
