There is no audio device recognized. When I update the drivers from Realtek
it loads in other drivers and the device manager shows them no working
correctly. I have tried to install and uninstall but can't get to work. Does
anybody have any advice.

Thanks

1. The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't?

2. Is this a laptop or a desktop?

3. Is the computer an OEM machine from a company like Dell, Sony, or HP?
If so, you need to get the drivers from them.

4. If you believe your sound card has died and this is a desktop, throw
in a PCI sound card and disable onboard sound (which your Realtek
probably is) in the BIOS.

More information from you will help us give you focused troubleshooting.

My wife says it stopped working the time we installed A web cam. The computer
is a desktop by Compaq.

Then go to Compaq's tech support site for your specific model computer
and download the drivers for the sound. Install them. If that doesn't
work, uninstall the device from Device Manager, reboot, and let Windows
find it again.

I tried that, but that didn't make any difference. I also checked the bios to
make sure that the sound device was enabled.

Then throw in a PCI sound card and disable the onboard sound or
uninstall the web cam. Apparently something in the web cam drivers
conflicts fatally with the onboard sound. Since I can't see the
computer, that's all I can guess. You can buy a sound card for under
$25USD so that is a cheap workaround.
