does win xp prof have a fax program?

If the same as HOME version, click START button|CONTROL PANEL|ADD/REMOVE
PROGRAMS|ADD/REMOVE WINDOWS COMPONENTS.
You should see a Fax Service entry there. Check it.

And you think just doing that will do it? NOT. You need to enable the
modem to receive and you need to enable Fax Services in Services.

More on FAX set up by clicking START button|HELP & SUPPORT. Type "Fax
Services" into the search box.
