Does SP2 Suck, or What?

Yeah, I fell for it too... by now I should have known better. Did the
install yesterday, and I actually liked the block pop-up feature. It
blocked pictures in spam email too, saying that doing this prevented the
sender from identifying me. Things worked, but they seemed a bit slow. As
the day went on, usage of features and programs on my computer started to
deteriorate. My FTP tool used to upload HTML to my web pages started
getting slower, and then eventually, it wouldn't connect at all. I did a
reboot, (even though the install did a reboot when it finished,) and
suddenly, I couldn't get email and the browser (IE 6) couldn't connect to
the Net. Fortunately, SP2 creates a set point for System Restore, and last
night, in less than 24 hours of struggling with SP2, I went back to the
previous day's settings. Phew!

Dave,
I had a few problems but once i turned off the popup blocker I was OK. After
your reinstall did you remember to configure the SP2 firewall which as a
default blocks everything?

Congratulations on a most informative, well conmstructed post.

if everyone was as eloquent as yourself we'd all need to go to school for 30
years in order to read and write.

Just what is the value in your post?

How can any other individual learn from your jabbering?

You haven't even listed the applcations installed on your computer, let
alone the ftp tool.

Had you the ability to think and document the problems, it may have been
possible for another well read, educated and informed person such as
yourself, to be able to provide assistance.

Your jabberings can only result in similar nonsense as replies.

Well, BAR, (which must be where you're spoofing from because you sound
drunk,) since you can only toss around arrogant insults, and you seem unable
to comprehend the point of the message, I'll brake it down so that even you
can understand it. I suggest that XP users hold off on installing SP2 until
all the bugs are worked out. I made the mistake of installing it as soon as
it was available to me, and I shouldn't have. I should have known better,
because the result of similar updates, like the ones that have been
available in the past with things like IE have proven to have been released
prematurely. I suspect MS releases newer products on the public before all
the bugs are worked out so that we can provide them with a free testing
staff. It's not the way a company should treat the public, but what can you
do?

Now, BAR, go back to your beer and pretzels. Talk about "jabbering," what
does "conmstructed" mean? Ever hear of spell check? Oh, that's right, you
didn't go to school. Keep plugging away, though... we need all the trolls
we can get.

John,

No, I never configured the firewall. I didn't think of that because I run
my own separate firewall, but maybe I'll give it a shot. As for the pop-up
blocker, it's the one feature I liked, so turning it off sort of makes the
install like washing your hands with gloves on. I also monitor my own Virus
Shield, so I really don't see what advantage there is to SP2. But, thanks
much for the advice.

Best regards,

Dave,

I think the SP2 popup blocker is too drastic though better than nothing. A
more configurable blocker like the one suppled in the Google tool bar is
easier to work with.
There are whole ot of other upgrades consolidated in SP2 so it is woth it to
have soldi base for your backups.

John

I placed my SP2 disk on each of the following:
Cat fur
Kitty litter
Potting soil
Cheerios

SP2 did not suck any of those off of my carpet, so it appears that SP2 does
not, indeed, suck. I suggest you use a device designed for sucking, such as
an upright vacuum cleaner or a Shop Vac.
