My Excel does not recognize dates entered like 7/14/04 even though th
cells are formatted as dates. The only way it recognizes dates is whe
they are entered in the numeric format. does not matter if I start
new sheet or use an old one.
Driving me nuts. Used to work just fine. Dont know what has changed.
I have checked my regional settings for the date formats and they ar
fine. Any sheet I create works fine on other machines and versions o
Excel (mine is 97), even in Open Office

Hi
have a look at
'Tools - Options - Transition' and uncheck the checkboy for alternative
entries

There are no checkmarks selected under Sheet options which has
Transition formula evaluation and Transition formula Entry selection
to choose from. No Alternate entry box anywhere on that page. But a
I said, no checkmarks there anyway

OK, let's back up a bit.

What do you mean by "does not recognize dates"?
What are the exact symptoms?

What do you mean when you say "entered in the numeric format"?
Precisely what do you have to type in to have your entry recognized as
a date?
