For some reason, the only way i can start my pc is by
holding down the ctrl, alt and delete keys. Initially,
when i hit the power button to turn on the computer it
beeps once, then the hard drive light goes out. Then the
only way to start it up is as i say...by holding down the
three keys. Then the screen stays black for about 1
minute, followed by the monitor spliting into 2 halfs of
colour, then i get the login screen.

Someone said it might be a problem with my motherboard...

Anyone any ideas why it could be doing this, and if so,
how to get it back to normal????

I am running windows xp

Hello
Open the Bios and set the defaults, if Bios will not open then it is more
then likely the motherboard.

If that does not fix the problem check the RAM chip(s), if more then 1 chip
pull them 1 at a time then boot up. XP is very RAM friendly but at the same
time it is also very picky and littlest problem with the chips will cause
major problems in the OS.
