I am using PC-Encrypt at the moment which
works fine, though it does destroy files
occasionally.

Does Microsoft produce some equivalent
software suitable for their operating system?

Please help, Frank

File Encryption is included with Windows XP Professional
and requires the hard drive to be formatted NTFS.

Windows XP Pro has built-in encryption but unfortunately XP Home does not
have this feature.

How nice.

Yes, it's called EFS and is built into XP.
Don't use it unless you understand it and
backup your encrytion key(s):

Thanks, but this is too advanced for me.

And what if my computer is running and
someone comes and accesses sensitive files.
I need something with a username and password
which will protect files/folders even if my
computer is left on.

I am not on a network.

Where in the windows system does one add the
password to encrypt files?

Regards Frank

"zipfolders", look in help and support.

This says that I should rightclick the
desktop and select new/Zipfolder, but there
is nothing about "zip"
in the right-click menu.

Is there a folder setting I should use?

Regards, Frank
PS I have WindowsXPpro/MediaCentre

As hard as I try I cannot find "Compressed
(zipped) Folder".

I right click on a new folder properties and
I get a list which does not include this.

Is there some setting elsewhere which will
activate more options in the "properties/New?

Please help, Frank

Yes, thank you that fixed it, by typing in
cmd /c assoc .zip=CompressedFolder

Are there any other missing fuctions I should
know about?

Thanks, Frank
