No, it does not, you need have the Malicious Software Removal Tool:

Or the latest AntiVirus definitions to be protected against Blaster, this
was specifically a problem in the RPC Client in Windows XP and Server 2003.

I have sp2 so blaster is not a threat, i was just wondering
whether on an xp without the necessary patches/service
pack/antivirus tools would MSAS notice anything or give a
warning or just silently let the worm come in?

No, you need to have an Antivirus with the latest definitions, Malicious
Software Removal Tool or the latest Service Pack from Microsoft.
